Recently we hosted a simple Surfboard Shaping Class and Demo. This was a semi hands on demonstration and QandA for those interested in making a board. I have been selling surfboard blanks for a few years and also kits, it is nice to be able to see the material, look at how it can be worked with. Overcoming the hype, miss-information, fear and general confusion that comes with making a board is most important in starting a project like this for a novice builder.

My goal and view in surfboard instruction is that almost every dedicated surfer has thought about making their own board – more people than you would normally expect will eventually make a board, some will make one others just a handful. This is probably one of the most influential things that you can do to advance your surfing while out of the water and also one of the most rewarding feelings in riding your board that you made with your own hands. Surfers that take on the project of making a board come out with a greater understanding of how the board and wave interact with each other and a better respect for the amount of work and detail that goes into surfboard shaping, glassing, artwork and sanding.

We are not giving away “secrets” here, simply opening the door and giving you a little push to enrich your surfing experience and make your shaping project a little more productive and enjoyable. Thanks – J Holla
